Enhanced Vision System
Under collaboration with Kollsman and Gulfstream, MADL developed a FAA-certified Enhanced Vision System that uses fog penetrating imaging sensors to provide a real image of the airport environment. MADL is conducting research on fusing EVS with digital terrain features and Highway-In-The-Sky guidance (HITS) to form a Combined Vision System. more

Synthetic Vision System
When used with the EVS system mentioned above, a pilot can fly in near all weather conditions. The flight path can be overlaid on the primary function display (PFD) with digital terrain and obstacle avoidance warnings. more |

Head-Up Display
A low cost HUD has been developed by Kollsman Inc specifically for general aviation. The HUD will be the pilots primary function display and show the Highway-In-The-Sky, HITS, information. The affordable HUD will improve general aviation safety during low visibility landing and takeoff. more |

Advanced Data Fusion Processor
The Advance Data Fusion Processor (ADFP) was developed to fuse all the dynamic and static data available in an environment for use by multiple user systems. more |

Cockpit Associate
One particular user of the ADFP is the Cockpit Associate. ASI's Cockpit Associate (CA) is a context-sensitive, knowledge-based software system for simplifying pilot interaction with a multi-functional display (MFD) system. By evaluating pilot actions and output from other avionics devices relative to an internal knowledge base of general aviation activities, the Cockpit Associate can determine which MFD functions are important to the current situation. The Cockpit Associate then makes this functionality accessible with a single button press; optionally, the Cockpit Associate also perform some display management duties autonomously. more |
