Flight Testing

URF's three aircraft have been used for missile emulation, Navy Shipboard Countermeasure tests, missile seeker testing, electro-optic tests, advanced data links, flight performance / Human factors evaluation, environmental sampling, and several avionics development projects.

Cessna 402B

Piper Aztec F

A Cessna 402 and a Piper Aztec aircraft, equipped with work stations for video display and recording equipment, are used as platforms for MADL's avionic and remote sensing applications; at a fraction of the cost of larger airborne platforms. These aircraft, along with extensive ground based data reduction facilities, are being applied to an expanded set of customer needs, including imagery applications requiring remote sensing utilizing panchromatic and multi spectral sensors. This remote imagery, combined with MADL's cartographic laboratory capabilities, offers an ideal means to evaluate illicit drug surveillance techniques, bathymetric measurements, toxic waste assessment, and numerous other environmental applications.

All aircraft are maintained in the “normal” category. They can be flown in either “restricted” or “experimental” categories if flight experiments require major configuration changes.
All aircraft are hangared in heated, closed and secure facilities. Maintenance and program work can be conducted inside or outside.
